Where to Stay in Hongdae: Hotels and Guesthouses by Budget (2026)

Hongdae has the cheapest decent rooms in central Seoul and the only central station with a direct train from Incheon Airport. It also has the loudest streets in the city. Booking well here is mostly about picking a block that lets you sleep.

Prices are per-night bands for a double room in low-to-mid season, from booking-site averages as of September 2026. Add 20–40% in April–May and September–October.

Pick your block first

• Around Exit 9 and the walking street — most convenient, loudest. Music until 02:00 at weekends.
• Yeonnam-dong (Exit 3 side) — cafés and small restaurants, residential, much quieter, five to ten minutes further to the station.
• Seogyo-dong / Sangsu — between the station and the river. Bars nearby but the side streets are calmer, and Sangsu Station on Line 6 is an alternative.
• Hapjeong — one stop away on Line 2 and Line 6, bigger hotels, quiet at night, ten minutes’ walk back to the action.

If you are a light sleeper, book Yeonnam or Hapjeong. The walk is short and the difference at 01:00 is enormous.

Budget: ₩30,000–90,000

Hongdae is where Seoul’s guesthouse scene lives, and standards are higher than the price suggests.

• Guesthouses and hostels — dorm beds from around ₩30,000, private rooms from ₩50,000. Many occupy renovated houses in Yeonnam and Seogyo with courtyards and shared kitchens.
• Business hotels — from about ₩60,000 for a small private room with an ensuite. Reliable, unremarkable, usually within five minutes of the station.
• Marigold Hotel — a long-standing budget option in the area, frequently listed among Hongdae’s cheaper hotels.

For a solo traveller or a pair on a tight budget, this is the best value in central Seoul. Compare with the other areas in our neighborhood guide.

Mid-range: ₩120,000–200,000

• L7 Hongdae by Lotte — the reliable mid-range choice, rooftop bar, right by the station.
• Mercure Ambassador Seoul Hongdae — a large modern hotel on the main road, easy for the airport bus, which stops nearby.
• Various boutique properties in Seogyo-dong — small, design-led, variable. Read recent reviews rather than trusting photos.

Upper: ₩200,000 and up

• RYSE, Autograph Collection — the standout hotel in the neighborhood, a Marriott design property about 300 metres from Exit 9. Rooms start from roughly $145 per night depending on type and season, and it has restaurants, a bar and a work-and-events floor. If you want a good hotel and Hongdae’s location, this is the answer.

Hongdae does not really have a five-star tier. If that is what you want, Gangnam or Jongno have it.

Why the station matters

Hongik Univ. Station is on Line 2, Gyeongui-Jungang Line and AREX. Practically that means:

• No transfer from Incheon Airport on the AREX all-stop train, for up to ₩5,350.
• Line 2 reaches Gangnam, Jamsil, Euljiro and City Hall directly.
• Gyeongui-Jungang Line reaches Yongsan, Ichon (for the National Museum) and Gongdeok without changing.

Airport bus Bus 6002 also stops here, near the Mercure and L7, which is the easier option with big suitcases.

What to check before you book

• Which street the window faces. Listings rarely say. Look at the map and ask the property directly if you are unsure.
• Whether it is above a bar. Common in Seogyo-dong, and it decides your night.
• The walk from Exit 9, not the distance to “Hongdae”. Some hotels marketed as Hongdae are 15 minutes away in Mapo.
• Guesthouse check-in hours. Small properties often have a staffed window (for example 15:00–22:00) rather than a 24-hour desk. If you land late, confirm first.
• Elevators. Older buildings in the side streets sometimes have none, which matters with luggage.
• Soundproofing mentioned in recent reviews is worth more than a star rating here.

Booking timing

Weekends fill first because of domestic visitors, not just tourists. Cherry blossom season in early April is the tightest week of the year, followed by late October. December to February is cheapest.

Wrapping up

If you want convenience and do not mind noise, book near Exit 9. If you want to sleep, book Yeonnam-dong or Hapjeong and walk five minutes more. Either way you keep the direct airport train, which is the single best reason to stay in Hongdae.
